Choosing a colour is easier with a real sprayed door in your kitchen than with a small paint chip. We spray a sample in the colour you are considering and leave it in your room so you can see it in your own light before the cabinet painting starts.

A paint chip is small, flat and usually viewed under store lighting. A cabinet door is large, has edges and panels, and sits next to your counter, floor and walls.
A sample front, or the back face of one of yours, gets sprayed in that shade. You leave it in the kitchen for a few days and look at it in morning, afternoon and evening light. No other method picks a cabinet painting colour as reliably.
Sheen is how much the finish shines. Matte hides small flaws but shows fingerprints. Satin is the most common choice for kitchens because it is easy to clean and does not show every mark. Semi-gloss is the easiest to wipe but shows every dent and brush of light.

Most people keep their countertops when they paint cabinets. Granite, quartz and laminate counters all have undertones of warm, cool or neutral. A white that looks crisp on its own can look yellow or grey next to the wrong counter.

Deep colours like navy, charcoal and forest green often need an extra coat to cover evenly. Pure whites over dark oak may need an extra primer coat. Those extra coats add to the price.

Requests still lean most toward warm white and gentle greige. They brighten small townhouse kitchens and work with most counters. Sage green has become popular for both full kitchens and islands, and navy and charcoal are common island colours.
